The 25th Anniversary IDS, in keeping with its slogan of “Design for Life,” not only emphasized outstanding design but also sustainable caring design exemplified by renowned UK-based Canadian architect Alison Brooks, the keynote speaker. Prior to her talk displaying her meticulous methodology in designing with sensitivity to the surrounding environment and the humanity and beauty of her projects, attendees to the opening Dezeen Trade Day were led through a discussion by leaders in the pursuit of the circular economy, in which design is done in a caring sustainable way from the very beginning, so that objects/buildings have minimal adverse impact on the environment and reduces the need to be recycled. The repurposing of removed urban trees in New York City into sustainable furniture was one example.

After the media preview of the intriguing innovative designs, especially of Oskar Zieta, Cosentino, and Miele, and then the fascinating Cosentino Main Stage talks during Dezeen Trade Day, plus delicious food prepared by celebrity chef Mark McEwan using the new multi-function Signature Design Suite stove, over 6,000 design lovers enjoyed the entertainment of upbeat DJ music and lively drag performers during the Opening Night Party.
